Gaming has taken India by a storm, especially after Jio entered the scene. eSports and gaming have been blooming and have made an industry out of itself. With new games and competitions many new eSports organizations have flourished, and some international organizations like Fnatic, Faze, Navi have branched out to countries where they see potential and have invested greatly. India has been on the receiving end of things. Indians have predominantly believed that gaming is merely a hobby which wouldn’t do anything beneficial for anyone, which now has been shred to pieces by Tournaments and Competitions with prize pools of 13 crores.

India still has a long way to go, but the good thing is the infrastructure that is being built around the organizations creates a lot of employment opportunities. The instinctive question that arises is; why is there a sudden growth in the eSports industry? The answer for this has two facets. Firstly, it wasn’t as if there were no skilled gamers. India has had an abundance of gamers but they couldn’t connect to each other. The solution for this came in the form of Jio. Jio offered internet to everyone almost for free and that is where the eSports Community building started. People started playing, watching, experiencing games together. Secondly, as internet was readily available, people who were really good at games, started broadcasting it in the form of streaming, uploading game plays, uploading videos on how to get better at a certain game and hence this inspired their supporters, “fans”, to play the game too. This ultimately lead the gamers to earn money and get sponsors. Also, this attracted the investments of foreign eSports companies and has offered gamers with lot of opportunities, which not only provides employment to gamers but also to the casters, editors, Influencers etc. All we need to do is support the gamers and help them grow. It is about time where we looked at vocational topics as a potential market and create an industry around it.
